Dyer’s Cottage Holiday Cottage Halifax Yorkshire – Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Updated: April 2022

How do I book?

We have 2 ways you can book directly which are by clicking the Book Now button and choosing either the online way which is linked to Bookalet and Stripe and allows you to book automatically and pay by card. Or you can select the traditional way and complete the enquiry form which we will receive and respond to and then you can pay by BACS or cheque as long as you have a UK bank account. Alternatively we do have listings on several popular online booking sites which take payment.

What are your booking terms and conditions?

These are on our website. Click here

Do you take a good housekeeping deposit?

Yes, we ask guests for a £125 deposit which we hold until after their stay in case there is any damage to, or loss from the cottage or if it is left in a state which requires additional cleaning.

What happens if we need to cancel?

Our cancellation policy at Dyer’s Holiday Cottage Halifax is very clear. We will only refund any payment if there is a national lockdown. If you decide to cancel after any payment has been made, we will open up the dates in the hope of acquiring a replacement booking but this may be at a lesser payment to your booking and we will also deduct a £50 administration fee. We therefore STRONGLY advise all guests to take out travel insurance to cover you for any eventuality. Occasionally we may be able to transfer dates but this depends on availability and may incur an additional cost due to our pricing structure. A £50 administration fee will apply.

What is included in our payment?

You won’t have to worry about any bills as council tax and water rates are included at Dyer’s Holiday Cottage Halifax as well as reasonable usage of gas, electricity and wifi. However, if we discover that you have used more of any of these than we deem reasonable we will withhold some of your good housekeeping deposit. We have records of guest use dating back over several years so use these to determine excessive use. We include the use of all bed linens and one bath sheet and one hand towel per person, plus a bath mat, tea towels and oven gloves.

Can we bring our own linen and towels?

Yes of course but there is no price reduction if you decide this suits you best.

Are there any extra charges?
We ask that you speak to us before booking if you wish us to consider a pet.

We charge £40 for a dog or maybe an indoor cat per week or part of a week at Dyer’s Holiday Cottage Halifax. This covers the laundry costs of the furniture throws and doggy towels we provide which obviously need a separate wash to the linens and towels. We will also ask for an additional pet deposit of £125 to be paid directly to the owner BEFORE booking.

How long can I book the cottage for?

We take guests from 2 day weekends to 28 days. It is a great option if you are visiting the area as a tourist, visiting friends or family, if you are working short term locally or if you are having house renovations.

Can we arrive/depart on any day of the week?

Yes, we are totally flexible about arrival and departure days.

What is the maximum number of guests?

Dyer’s Holiday Cottage has had many single guests and at certain times of year we do offer a single person discount. The majority of our guests are couples but we also have 2 friends or 2/3 family members. This is why our sleeping arrangements are flexible. You can request the superking bed, or 2 long twins and we have a comfortable sofabed for an additional guest as well. The maximum occupancy is 3 adults and a baby in a cot.

What are the arrival and departure times?

You are welcome to arrive any time after 15.30 and departure time is by 10.30. If the cottage is prepared earlier than 15.30, we can let you know upon request. If you would like an early arrival, for instance if your flight lands at Manchester Airport in the morning, we suggest you book the previous night as well.

How do we gain entry?

We no longer meet guests and for your flexibility we have a keysafe which means you can arrive any time you like though we do suggest daylight hours are best. We will give you your code for the keysafe a few days before your arrival in the essential cottage information we send by email to the email address you have provided. Do check your junk folder!

Is the bathroom upstairs?

Yes it is. Until 2014 there was no bathroom so we converted the smaller bedroom and created a contemporary bathroom with a long P shaped shower/bath with an overhead digital shower head and a separate handheld shower attachment too. The basin is set into a drawer unit which matches the cupboards hiding the washer/dryer and gas central heating boiler.

What type of heating is there?

Dyer’s Holiday Cottage has gas fired central heating with a thermostatically controlled radiator in each room. The boiler is in a cupboard in the bathroom. In addition we have a gas fired stove in the living room.

Is the cottage suitable for those with mobility issues?

No, we are afraid that as Dyer’s Holiday Cottage Halifax is built on a hillside, there are 10 steps leading to the front door from the pavement and the internal staircase is steep and slightly irregular with the top step being higher and shallower than the others. There is a handrail.

Are there any height restrictions?

The ceilings are high for a cottage but the door to the kitchen is lower than normal and the cellar door is very low but unless you need to access the fuse box, there is no need for you to go down there.

Do you accept children?

Yes Dyer’s Holiday Cottage does allow children but parents must accept full responsibility for them and acknowledge that the cottage is not structurally child friendly. We are unable to install safety gates on the stairs, or a fireguard around the gas stove. However, we are able to provide a travel cot (no bedding), an IKEA high chair, a baby bath recliner and a small selection of baby and children’s toys and DVDs.

Are we able to bring our pet?

We may allow one well behaved dog (not puppy) but the bedroom is a no dog area. We have a dog/cat policy on our website which we request you adhere to. There is an additional charge of £40 per week or part of a week. We provide furniture throws, doggy towels and bowls. It is possible we may consider an indoor cat after prior discussion. No trace of the pet must be left inside or outside the cottage. We also ask for an additional £125 as a pet good housekeeping deposit PAYABLE BEFORE BOOKING so please speak to us. We do not accept pets on any online sites you may find us on. Unfortunately, although most pet owners have been respectful, a few haven’t which is very upsetting.

What if there is a problem when we arrive?

Please let us know within 24 hours. You will have a mobile contact number. However, please only use this if it is urgent otherwise an email will suffice. We will then arrange for our housekeeper to visit. However, please be aware that we can not be held responsible for third party outage issues which include electricity, gas, water supply and WiFi and it is not reasonable of you to expect compensation for anything outside our control.

Where can we park the car?

Unfortunately cars did not exist when the original farmhouse was built around 1650 so there is no possibility of parking on site. However there is free no restriction car parking available on the road close by. We suggest you select a space in Edwards Road 50m away which is wider.

Does the garden of Dyer’s Holiday Cottage Halifax have seating?

Yes it has an antique wooden bench and 2 small chairs and 2 reclining chairs so there is plenty of opportunity for you to relax in the sunshine.

Is there anything we should pack?

Apart from your clothes, we ask all guests to wear slippers or soft house shoes in the cottage as 80% of germs and viruses are transported on footwear.

Is there anything you would ask us to do before departure?

As we wish to reduce risks to our housekeeper, we would be very appreciative if you were able to remove the bed linen and put it in the green bag or leave it on the bathroom floor along with the towels you have used and the bathmat. We also ask you to empty the contents of all room bins into the kitchen bin liner which should be placed in the blue lined dustbin outside the back door in the courtyard.

What do I do if one of our group is unwell before we arrive?

You may choose whether to stay isolated at the cottage until the end of your booking or you may decide to return home. No refund will be given.

If you change your mind about taking your booked holiday for any reason: also known as Disinclination to travel. No refunds will be made. However, we understand that, especially in the current climate, personal circumstances can change. If we are able to do so, we will try to re-book your holiday dates and if successful, we will refund as much as we can of your payment less any costs (such as additional advertising or a last minute offer price reduction) incurred by us for which a £50 fee will be retained.

We STRONGLY suggest that you take out a travel insurance policy which covers you for all known risks at the time of booking.
