Amazing to watch this programme highlighting why Yorkshire attracts so many visitors. Stunning scenery of moors, dales, coast and historic buildings as well as cycling challenges and literary connections.
Much of the programme was filmed within 30 miles of Dyer’s Holiday Cottage between Halifax and Sowerby Bridge. We saw Ben Fogle get on a bike from Happy Days Cycles near us www.happydayscycles.co.uk and attempt to ascend a really challenging old packhorse route from Hebden Bridge to Heptonstall. The Buttress may be short but it’s certainly mighty and many a keen cyclist struggles to get up this cobbled route in one go. Read more about it at www.visitcalderdale.com/the-buttress
We also saw Julia Bradbury walking the moors between Haworth, home of the famous Bronte family, and the ruins of Top Withens, reputedly the inspiration for Wuthering Heights, the most famous novel of Emily Bronte.
Further North is the limestone topography of the Yorkshire Dales National Park near Malham which makes a great day out. Or the delightful coastal resorts of Whitby, Scarborough and Robin Hoods Bay are just a 2 hour drive.
